The Moulton Formulae and Methods: Directly Usable for Calculations in Mechanical Engineering

... The collection of engineering formulae is unique in certain respects. It is partly in color. In order to be compact yet detailed, the sheets fold out to three times their apparent width in this ring-bound book. Owing to the latter, the pages can be removed or added, and their relative order can be changed according to the needs of the engineer.

The topics include familiar ones such as the basics of units, statics, beam formulae, trusses, etc. Also included are topics seldom featured in engineering-formulae books, such as portal frames (pinned or rigid connections at bottom), determination of the deflection of frames either graphically or by virtual work, computing the deflection of a symmetrical triangular frame with pin joints, etc.

Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering (NASA SP-66: Space Technology, Volume II) (Space technology)

... This relatively small paperback, was published in 1965 by NASA, to explain the mechanical engineering aspects of spacecraft design to a general audience. Some of the topics covered in this book are thermal control systems, electronics packaging, stress analysis, lubrication, etc. While many of the topics in this book are dated, especially the electronics section, this book is an important historical document that describes the early era of NASA and its spacecraft designs.

It is important to note that while this book has been out of print for many years, it is possible to fine many excellent quality used copies of this for between $10 - 25.

Mechanical Design Modeling Using Pro/Engineer

... This is one of the best books that I have ever seen on Pro/E. The chapters are very well-organized with easy to follow directions . For each concept, there are numerous examples with step by step instructions.

The book would be ideal for both beginners who are trying to explore Pro/E, as well as advanced users who are trying to make the best use of Engineering Design using Pro/E. ...

Applied Finite Element Analysis for Engineers (Hrw Series in Mechanical Engineering)

... The author has done a great job of developing the finite element method one step at a time, starting with a review of basic matrix algebra. I was able to self-study this book over the period of four months and I have definitely benefited from the experience. I am much more knowledgable about the tasks I perform in my job as a result of studying this book. ...

Fundamentals of Mechanical Component Design (McGraw-Hill series in mechanical engineering)

... Great coverage of fatigue. Good coverage of bolted joints, members in tension, compresion, and twisting. Best review of stress I've seen in any book - makes practical sense of Mohr's circle. Many of my coligues speak highly of this book as well. If I had to pick a favorite book in my engineering library, this would be it. ...

Microengineering, MEMS, and Interfacing: A Practical Guide (Mechanical Engineering)

... This volume brings together a very high proportion of what anyone with a general scientific or enginneering background will need to know to make a contribution to MEMS research or development. The choice of material to include is impeccable; here is all the practical stuff you need, with no dross or padding. Many academics may not agree, but I would suspect a couple of readings of this book to be worth more than some masters courses.

I have followed D Banks' online guide to MEMS as it developed, and you can tell from this volume that the material has been very carefully considered and honed with much more care than many similar works as a result of his online efforts.

Other classics to consider include Madou's "Fundamentals of Microfabrication" and for CMOS electronic device layout, Baker and Boyce's CMOS: "Circuit Design, Layout, and Simulation". Having said this, I feel Bank's book is the best place for those new to MEMS to start if they want to be productive almost immediately. ...

Vibrations in Mechanical Systems: Analytical Methods and Applications

... Covering single and multiple degrees of freedom as well as continuous systems and structures, coupled oscillations, dynamic (buckling) stability, rotating machines and non-linear waves, this book deserves maximum attention. Elegant mathematical demonstrations followed by illustrative examples makes me recommend it to graduate students and professors in the academia and to experienced professionals in the industry. ...

Design of Machinery/Book and Disk (McGraw-Hill Mechanical Engineering)

... As another addition to my review, I wish to state the following things:

1) I have taken the courses in machine design and kinematics and know what I am doing. I am not expecting an easy answer to my design problem or expecting the software on the disk to be another "Working Model" or "I-DEAS" or whatever. I did all calculations in my design courses by hand. 2)It's only that my expectation of a "WINDOWS" program is probably different from the authors'. I don't want bevelled buttons or colored text input boxes, however useful they may be. I want them to conform to windows like look and feel, that's all. ...

Mechanical Desktop(r): Parametric Solid and Assembly Modeling

... Having read a number of books on Parametric Solid and Assembly Modeling, I can say assuredly that this book, although a bit dated now (copyright in 1998), is still the best introduction to this subject. This is because the author, Steven K. Howell, actually explains the rationale for using the various commands to construct various solids and then to assemble them together to form the final assembly. Whereas other books just have you pretty much follow a cookbook approach to constructing parametric solids and assemblies thereof, this book is chock full of explanations. As an indication of how highly I value this book, I periodically visit Amazon.com and other on-line bookstores just hoping that Mr. Howell has written another book on the subject. And when I don't find a later book, I search the internet for any news of a later book. If I had to pick just one book for learning any version of Mechanical Desktop (yes, even Version 5), this would be it. ...

Air Pollution Control Technology Handbook (Mechanical Engineering)

... The review of the Clean Air Act is well done. Absorption tower examples are very dated - saddles are stated to be the preferred tower packing, so the tower designed is grossly oversized with enormous pressure drop compared to what is possible with a modern packing. If you need a reference work with practical examples to pollution control towers keep looking. ...

Mechatronics: Electronic Control Systems in Mechanical Engineering

... This book is flawed, even in its second editon, due to typos and outright errors in some places. Chapter 14 dealing with digital logic has a noticable error for the exclusive or operation: A XOR B = A OR Not(B). This is not correct! I lose faith in a textbook when I see things like this!!! ...
