Mechanics and Control of Robots (Mechanical Engineering Series)

... Mecahnics and Control of Robots provides a ``how-to'' introduction to robotics. Unfortunately there are several problems with the text. Some of the writing is cumbersome and hard to follow, and several fundamental items, such as homogeneous transformations, robot dynamics and control, are not adequately explained. It may be worth having for the examples if for no other reason. ...

Mechanical Properties of Metals: Atomistic and Fractal Continuum Approaches

... In this book the basics of elasticity theory, electronic structure and the fractal description of fractures as a topic of technological importance, are linked to summarize a very well done and elegant way of representing the fundamentals of the mechanical behavior of materials, which is not always apparent from conventional descriptions. An useful source to study and consult for mechanical engineers, materials scientists, physicists, etc. ...

CAD Systems in Mechanical and Production Engineering

... This book tells about the technology that is used in 90's. In those years there were mainframe computers and workstations with 128 kb memory. Since then Cad technology has developed a lot. Reading this book is just waisting time. But if you want refresh your memories, you should read it. ...

Collected Works of A.M. Turing : Mechanical Intelligence

... This is a very interesting book allowing one to look at the future (from the 1940s) from Alan Turing's frame of mind.

There is a lot of unintended humor here. Computers are people who do calculations. Computer programs are "instruction tables". The imminent demise of the mathematicians who write the instruction tables (because the machine can eventually write its own) leads to the creation of gibberish (computerese).

If Turing could only imagine his brainchild would end up as an internet appliance... or a game platform. I think he would be amazed and pleased. ...

Advanced Technology in Satellite Communication Antennas: Electrical & Mechanical Design (Artech House Antenna Library)

... This book is an excellent reference for SATCOM systems engineers, and for RF, controls and mechanical designers working on earth station antenna systems. I have found no other book that has as much technical depth in the area of antenna positioning systems. Note that this book is not for someone looking for an introduction to satellite communications. ...

Engine Oils and Automotive Lubrication (Mechanical Engineering (Marcell Dekker))

... At first I balked at paying almost $300 for a book about motor oil- but after several costly engine explosions I decided it was time to give it a try!

One of the underlying rudiments (though never explicitly spelled out) of this text could be summed up as - "motor oil, you should pick one for your engine". After failing with old gasoline, bits of glass, sand, sugar, and baby formula this book was really a breathe of fresh air (which also doesn't work). What they don't tell you is that if you seal the "underport" of your engine to retain this "oil", your engine has a higher probability of not melding into one hot mass of steal.

Perhaps this books is a bit advanced for most readers but being an eccentric billionaire with paid legal help, this book was well worth the money. Also, my handlers are glad to see me "destroying fewer of mankind's great technological wonders".

My only caveat for this book lies in its round-about jargonease talk about other uses for industrially refined petroleum lubricants. Once I had glossed this tome over and handed it to my lawyers to explain to me, I started experimenting. From a new "grease rink" for afternoon skating to the delicious application of "digestive lubricants" it's clear to me that this book only brushes the surface of this vast and syrupy subject.

Nevertheless, my lawyers tell me they quite enjoyed it and I never enjoyed such speed when visiting the bathroom! A+ Thanks! ...
